Geocache Description:


Welcome to McKenzie Conservation Area!

This 462-acre conservation area is a beautiful system of trails that leads you through upland evergreen forests full of western red cedar, fir, and pine trees as well as wetlands with cottonwood and aspen groves, to the shores of Newman Lake. Rocky outcrops and high ridges allow for scenic views of Mount Spokane, Newman Lake and the surrounding area. You may see many forms of wildlife along the way, including deer, moose, elk, coyotes, bear, bald eagles and turkeys, as well as beautiful wildflowers and amazing views. The over 5 miles of trails are well marked with sign posts at each junction. There is even a native plant garden at the lake side for you to test your identification skills. So, get your hiking boots out, grab a snack and some water and be prepared for a wonderful hike!

MAIN TRAILHEAD is at: N 47° 48.066 W 117° 7.239 This is the main parking lot, and most trails will start there.

There is no parking fee or entrance fee for this hiking area.
There is a porta potty at the trailhead.
As usual, please do not leave any valuables in your vehicle!
