Over the years, I have driven past this spot many times, stunned by the changes in history that many, in our rush, seem all to eager to ignore...at least I do. Just imagine, if you were standing on this spot in 1877, as you travelled on west, you would be entering the Northwest Territories, and, as you were travelling east, you would be entering Manitoba. The province then measured about 130 miles east to west and 110 miles north to south, with an area of 13,928 square miles. Its size and shape gave it the nickname "the Postage Stamp Province." Boundaries were extended in 1881 and 1912.
Attempting to encourage folks to stop and remember and visualize what life was like for travellers on this road then, this cache honours that time.
Please be careful with this cache container, returning exactly as found, leaving a gentle environmental footprint, and letting CO know if any maintenance is needed.
