Geocache Description:

Cache is located in the rocky volcanic McCullough Mountain Range in Henderson. Hiking boots are recommended for the trek to this cache. As always when hiking around Las Vegas in the summer months (a trek to this cache in the summer may be too demanding) bring along with you a large quantity water and wear a hat to protect yourself from the sun. Not much shade to be found. During the Spring/Summer/Fall month's hikers in Las Vegas area should be aware that rattlesnakes might be present.

All day I faced the barren waste
Without the taste of water
Cool water
Old Dan and I with throats burned dry
And souls that cry for water
Cool, clear water
Keep a-movin', Dan, don't you listen to him, Dan
He's a devil not a man
and he spreads the burning sand
With water
Dan can you see that big green tree
Where the water's runnin' free
And it's waiting there for me and you
The nights are cool and I'm a fool
Each star's a pool of water
Cool water
But with the dawn I'll wake and yawn
And carry on
To water
Cool, clear water

Rocks fully cover the cache, which is stored in a black ammo box near the mouth of the cave. George, a fellow hiker had mentioned the existence of a cave in the area. The cave is not very deep into the Northern canyon wall. Someone has placed several long plastic containers to catch the dripping water for the animals in the local area to drink from. Not much water there at this time, but never the less it is still dripping. Travel US 95,(INTERSTATE 515), to Henderson, get off at College Drive exit and go south. Eventually the paved road breaks down to a fair dirt road that can be easily handled by any truck, but not recommended for the family car. You should be able to follow the Power Line Road to get within 2.5 miles of the cache site. Parked where the large wash portion of that drainage crosses the power line road. From there on is a rough walk through the dry stream bed. A walking stick might be handy to place out in front of you before you step, (who knows what creature you may step on in the brush and boulders that cover the ground in this forbidden land). The walking stick will also be handy when you’re trying to balance yourself over the rocking terrain.
