Geocache Description:

This is a wonderful conservation area on what's called Pepperell Pond - a wide area of the Nashua River where it spreads out above the dam. The driveway is just south of the Pepperell Veterinary Clinic on River Road, and there's parking for several cars right near the river - close enough to be handicapped accessible to view the river.

A tiny peninsula juts out where a park bench has been placed. It's a great place for birdwatching. You can often see swans - and in spring, their cygnets, paddling about on the other side of the river. Ducks are prevalent, and cormorants and great blue herons often perch on snags in the river. And there are bald eagles, which nest on an island upriver a bit, and often soar high over the river.

There's also a canoe and kayak launching site here, and many people come here to fish.

A walking trail starts here and runs upstream along the river, partly on an old railway bed, to end across from Wilkins Farm Stand on Route 119. It goes through land owned by the Town of Pepperell, The Nashoba Conservation Trust (NCT) and the state. NCT has named their portion of this land the Marion Stoddart Conservation Area, "in honor of Marion’s decades long commitment to protecting the river".

See the online NCT Trail Guide for more information and a map.

This area is across the river from the Rail Trail, and has views that you can't get from there.

The cache is a lock and lock box about the size of a deck of cards, so there's just a little room for travel bugs or swag. The FTF prize is a magnet from Grand Teton National Park (or a pair of earbuds, if you'd prefer).

Beware of muggles, and please rehide thoroughly.
