Geocache Description:

01 January 2021, 08:00 - 08:30

The new year is a time to reflect on the past and embellish on the prospect of the future. I think we can all assume, 2020 didn't go how anyone anticipated. Nevertheless, I hope you were able to make the best of it and accomplish some of your goals throughout the year.

Ever since I first hiked "Raven's Rock", as it is known, I've had a strange affixation with this place. Each time I hike out to the pinnacle, it always offers a different experience. I have brought countless friends out to this point over the years and I want to share the experience with all my caching friends too. This event is titled after Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven" in which he states, "Nevermore, quoth the raven". I thought this line spoke true to the year 2020. (Plus I thought this location lent itself to a good pun.) So, come join me for a sunrise viewing you won't soon forget to say goodbye to 2020 and welcome in the new year.

 --> Where: N 39° 37.275' W 79° 47.935' (Raven Rock Overlook) <--

 --> When: 8:00am - 8:30am <--

This event will be held at the Raven Rock overlook at 8:00am prompt. It is here we will all celebrate the new year; come prepared to share one of two things (or both!) 1. Did you accomplish your caching goals in 2020? 2. What are your caching goals for 2021?

This hike will be about a seven-mile hike, roundtrip. Due to the lack of winter maintenance, the park will be closed to motorized vehicles, however, foot traffic is still welcome. I have included suggested parking along with the trailhead in the waypoints below to help guide you. I will be departing the parking area at 7:00am to jog (8.5mm pace) to the posted coordinates if anyone would like to join me. The terrain along the route is extremely varied, ranging from paved to mud, and flat to steep inclines. Please come prepared.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!

After the event, I have full intentions of tackling GC34H2D, "Scott Run Excursion." This eight-stage adventure spans six miles of Coopers Rock's most rugged terrain. This multi-stage cache has sat lonely for over FIVE years and I would love to assemble a team to tackle this challenge. Please indicate in your will attend log if you are interested in joining this adventure. I anticipate leaving the parking area towards stage one around 9:30am. (Please Note: This plan is contingent on the weather conditions and the overall group morale after arriving back at the parking area.)
