To celebrate the holiday season, this cache has been placed as a tribute to Festivus: a secular, fictional holiday created by TV character Frank Costanza (father of George) in the highly acclaimed 90s TV sitcom, 'Seinfeld' - one of my all-time favourite shows. Festivus was celebrated on the 23rd of December in the show and is now widely accepted as the date of Festivus; which, appropriately, is why this cache has been published on the same date!
Festivus is based on the real-life holiday celebrations of the family of the episode's lead writer, Dan O'Keefe, celebrating his parents' first date. The holiday was created as an alternative to the stressful and commercial aspects of the Christmas season; however, Festivus has since had a large impact on popular culture in the real world. It is celebrated annually by fans of Seinfeld ironically and as a way for fans to celebrate the beloved TV series. Many of the Festivus traditions include the Aluminium Pole, the Festivus Dinner, the Airing of Grievances, the Festivus Miracle and, most famously, the Feats of Strength.
For this cache, the Feats of Strength will not involve wrestling matches with family members like in the show, but will involve geocachers utilising their academic, online research, field research, trivia (and potentially teamwork) strengths to answer a large chunk of questions!
