The Middleton History Walk is a series of eight historical markers placed throughout the township of Middleton, a small seaside village in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. To complete this multi-cache you will need to visit all eight markers and collect a digit from each.
The cache's posted coordinates point to the first marker on the trail, reference waypoints are provided for the other seven markers. The markers may be visited in any order - an efficient route will require about 30 minutes walking time, or five minutes by car.
At each marker, find one digit of the final location as follows. Note: this is not necessarily the most efficient order to visit all the sites.
- "Slip Cottages" (posted coordinates): A = The number of paragraphs on the sign.
- "Middleton Hall": The first Middleton Hall was built in 189B.
- "Middleton General Store": C = The number of words in the caption of the bottom-left photo on the sign.
- "Wesleyan/Methodist Church": This is site number D of the History Walk.
- "Anglican Church": E = The number of lines in the second paragraph.
- "Middleton Jetty": The storage shed was build in 191F.
- "Middleton State School": According to the sign, G schools have been established in Middleton over the years.
- "Bushfire Memorial": H = The number of photos on the History Walk sign.
The cache may be found at S 43° 1A.BCD' E 147° 1E.FGH'. Please BYO writing implement, tweezers and winding tool. Stealth will be required: the cache is in a fairly exposed spot, with plentiful muggles in the area.
For those looking for a little more local history, another sign can be found a little way down the road at Gordon Point (S43° 15.672' E147° 14.505').
