Geocache Description:

Located in a gorge on the bank of the Manasquan River. In this area the river had carved out a gorge through several yards of orange and red clay and into the gray Cretaceous sand beneath. The remains of ancient Cretaceous Goblin Sharks, Mackerel Sharks and Sabertooth Salmon can sometimes be found in the river bed, as this area was once under water when the ocean level was much higher.

A great view of the steep clay cliffs can be seen from ground zero. This is one of the few places you can approach the water, making this a good area for fishing, the river is stocked with trout. You can also go panning for fossils in the shallow areas where you can enter the water, the easiest spot is right by "Almost Twins". If you're interested in finding fossils, you'll find some information inside the cache about all the fossils you might find here.

For your safety please don't try to climb down any steep cliffs. This should be a very easy hike, there is a trail going from the parking area toward this cache in addition to the trail that goes toward "Almost Twins". You can follow this trail all the way down to the trail along the river, if you're on top of a cliff you're on the wrong trail.

You're looking for a plastic jar with a screw on lid, in a hollow log.
