Popis keše

Tato keš je jednou z pěti keší založených studenty Arts managementu na Vysoké škole ekonomické v Praze. Keše se snaží zábavnou formou připomenout vybrané české pověsti: O založení Prahy, O Libuši a Přemyslovi, O Bivojovi, O dívčím válčení a také O Šemíkovi. Keše primárně vychází ze zpracování pověstí v knize Pražské pověsti od Václava Cibuly a knihy Staré pověsti české od Aloise Jiráska. Konkrétně tato keš je inspirována pověstí O dívčím válčení, která se odehrála po smrti kněžny Libuše. Pokud Vás zajímají události, které dívčí válce bezprostředně předcházely, můžete si přečíst pověst O Libušině smrti.

Pověsti se obvykle váží k určitému místu, osobě, času, předmětu nebo události. Často jsou založeny na reálném historickém základu, snaží se působit věrohodně, ale bývají do nich přidány fantazijní prvky ve formě nadpřirozených jevů a bytostí. Místo uložení keše

Keš se nachází v Šáreckém údolí, kde dle pověsti měla skokem ze skály ukončit svůj život nešťastná Šárka, která si vyčítala, jak zradila důvěřivého Ctirada. Dnes nese ona nejstrmější skála v údolí jméno Dívčí skok. Šárecké údolí se rozkládá kolem Šáreckého potoka na Praze 6 a skládá se z několika částí, z nichž část Divoká Šárka je přírodní rezervací. Až do přelomu 9. a 10. století zde stávalo slovanské hradiště, a proto je dnes také významnou archeologickou lokalitou.

Převyprávěná pověst

Když kněžna Libuše zemřela, viděly dívky z její družiny, že již nejsou u mužů chovány v takové vážnosti jako dříve. Muži se jim posmívali a často se k nim chovali hrubě, u knížete Přemysla se jim také žádného zastání nedostalo. Vlasta, nejpřednější dívka z družiny, se rozhodla, že takové chování již nebude dále snášet a snadno získala ostatní dívky na svou stranu. Společně odešly z Vyšehradu a na protějším břehu řeky Vltavy v potu a krvi pro sebe vystavěly nové útočiště. Protože se na výstavbě hradu nepodílel ani jeden muž, daly místu jméno Děvín.

Na hrad začaly přicházet i dívky z ostatních hradišť, učily se jízdě na koni obkročmo, střelbě z luku a boji s dřevci i meči. Všechny dívky se musely zavázat přísahou, že zapomenou na svého otce i své bratry a místo toho budou stát při sobě v dobrém i ve zlém. Dění na Děvíně nezůstalo bez povšimnutí, avšak muži tuto vzrůstající hrozbu nebrali vážně. Kdo kdy viděl, aby žena ve zbroji jezdila na koni, střílela z luku a oháněla se mečem? Jen Přemysl se nesmál. V noci se mu zdál sen, ve kterém viděl dívku ve zbroji, s dlouhými vlajícími vlasy ve větru, která stála s pohárem plného krve na bojišti plném mrtvých mužů. Snažil se upozornit ostatní, ale ti jeho varování nedbali.

Mezitím dívky na Děvíně podnikaly výpravy do okolí a pokud narazily na osamělého muže nebo menší družinu, bez milosti všechny pobily. Začaly vymýšlet různé lsti, zvaly muže na hrad, vystrojily jim hostinu a pak je ve spánku zabily. Zvěsti se rychle šířily a působily velké pozdvižení mezi dívkami a ženami v celé zemi. Ty, které neprchly z domova, přestaly poslouchat své muže a události došly tak daleko, že se muži vůbec neodvážili ženě něco vytknout nebo ji dokonce potrestat, protože se báli, že jim v noci podřízne hrdlo a uprchne s cennostmi na Děvín.

Dívčí lsti se nevyhnul ani mladý vladyka Ctirad. Ten se jednoho dne vydal se svou družinou na lov. Když projížděli hustým lesem, zaslechli najednou nářek a volání o pomoc. Vydali se tedy za oním hlasem až nakonec u skály, diviznou prokvétající, kousek od zelenající se mýtiny, spatřili dívku. Byla spoutaná ke starému dubu, s loveckým rohem okolo krku, a prosila družinu, aby ji vysvobodili.

Ctirad bez rozmyslu tasil svůj meč a krásnou dívku osvobodil. Ta družině děkovala a uplakaně povídala, že se jmenuje Šárka a že pochází z Okořína, kde je vladykou její otec. Vyprávěla, jak jí unesly děvínské dívky a nechaly ji napospas svému osudu. S posměchem jí pověsily roh na krk, aby si mohla zavolat o pomoc a daly jí medovinu, aby žízeň neměla, avšak uvázaly ji tak pevně, že se ani o kousek pohnout nemohla.  A znovu naříkala a prosila Ctirada, aby ji odvezl zpět k otci. Ctirad zahleděný do její krásy se posadil vedle Šárky a nabídl jí onu medovinu na posilnění. Celá jeho družina se unavena cestou uvelebila v trávě a pod vlivem horka i medoviny začala usínat. Jen Ctirad ani na chvíli oka nezamhouřil. Sledoval Šárku a poslouchal její hlas. Ta v jednu chvíli vzala svůj roh, a poprosila Ctirada, aby na něj zatroubil, že by chtěla slyšet jeho zvuk.

V tu chvíli začaly z úkrytů vybíhat houfy ozbrojených dívek volající bojové pokřiky. Ctirad se nechal chytit do pasti. Šárka patřila k Vlastině družině, která se hnala směrem k nechápajícím mužům a bodala do nich své ostré meče. Ctirada dívky spoutaly na stejném místě, kde před chvílí osvobodil naříkající Šárku. Nyní se smála a s ní i celá Vlastina družina, která vedla Ctirada v poutech na Děvín. Nikdo z vladykovy družiny neunikl smrti. A ono divoké údolí se dodnes nazývá podle krásné dívky, která zde nad nimi zvítězila pomocí lsti.

Zpráva, že Ctirad upadl do zajetí a byl mučen na Děvíně, se rychle roznesla. Muži z širokého okolí, rozhořčeni touto událostí a s touhou se mstít, se hnali ozbrojeni na Děvín a žádali Přemysla, aby je vedl. Zajali množství dívek a uvěznili je na Vyšehradě. Když se to dozvěděla Vlasta, povolala své stoupenkyně a s nenávistí táhly na Vyšehrad. Jakmile spatřila u hradeb vyšehradské muže, rozhořčeně se na svém koni hnala přímo proti nim. Myslela, že jí jsou ostatní dívky v patách. Ty jí však stěží stačily a Vlasta se tak ocitla sama v chumlu mužů, kteří ji strhli z koně a probodli svými meči. Když dívky uviděly, že jejich vůdkyně padla, zmocnil se jich strach a daly se na útěk. Muži však nelítostně mstili své padlé druhy, a i když je dívky při útěku prosily a na kolena před nimi padaly, neměli s nimi slitování. Neušetřili ani jednu z bojovnic a Děvín rozbořili a spálili.

A tak skončila dívčí válka a kníže Přemysl zase vládl sám, bez ženského odporu. Jak to ale doopravdy bylo se již nikdy nedozvíme, protože prach očitých svědků dávno roznesl vítr.

Řešení

The Maidens´ War

Cache description

This cache is one of the 5 caches that were created by Arts management students at the Prague University of Economics and Business. The main aim of the caches is to recall selected Czech tales (legends) such as The Foundation of Prague, The Legend of Libuše and Přemysl, The Legend of Bivoj, The Maidens´ War, and The Legend of Šemík. The primary sources used for the caches were in the first place the Old Legends of Prague written by Václav Cibula and the famous Ancient Bohemian Legends written by Alois Jirásek. This particular cache was inspired by a legend called The Maidens´ War, which took place after princess Libuše’s death. If you are interested in the events that were taking place before the war, you may read the legend about the Libuše’s death.

Legends are usually linked to a particular place, person, time, object, or event. Often, they are based on real historical events and pretend to be as real as possible, but sometimes some fantasy elements like supernatural creatures and events were added. The legends about the Foundation of Prague, Libuše and Přemysl, Bivoj, Maiden´s War and Šemík were taken from the Czech folklore and they are passed on together with the belief that the events described in them were real.  

To find the correct coordinates, one needs to be or become familiar with the legend. We do hope, that this cache will evoke your interest and that you will read the whole legend together with your friends and family.

Cache location

This cache is located in Šárecké údolí, a natural valley, and legend has it that wretched Šárka ended her life here by jumping off a steep rock because she blamed herself for Ctirad´s death. The place, where she ended her life, is called Dívčí skok. The area of Šárecké údolí situated alongside the Šárecký potok (=stream) is covered by the Municipal District of Prague 6 and it consists of several parts. The part Divoká Šárka is also a natural reserve. There had been a Slavic settlement until the turn of the 9th and 10th century, therefore there can be found an important archaeological site.

Retelling the story

When princess Libuše died, girls saw that they were no longer taken as seriously by men as they had been before. Men were making fun of them, treated them very badly, and in the castle, with prince Přemysl they also received no support. Vlasta, the leader of the company, decided that she would no longer tolerate such behavior and easily convinced other girls to rebel. Together they left Vyšehrad and in sweat and blood built a new settlement for themselves on the opposite bank of the Vltava river. Since not a single man was involved in the construction of the castle, they called the place Děvín. 

Other girls began to come to Děvín, they learned to ride astride on a horse, learned how to shoot arrows, and fight with swords. All the girls had to swear, that they will forget their father and brothers and that they will stand together with other girls in Děvín for better or worse. What was happening on Děvín didn´t go unnoticed, but men didn´t take this growing threat seriously. Who's ever seen a woman in armor riding a horse, shooting arrows, and fighting with a sword? Only Přemysl didn't laugh. At night he had a dream in which he saw a girl in armor, with long waving hair in the wind, standing with a cup of blood on a battlefield full of dead men. He tried to warn others, but they ignored him. 

Meanwhile, the girls on Děvín were searching the surrounding area, and when they came across a lonely man or a smaller company of men, they killed everyone without mercy. They began to make traps, invited men to the castle, arranged a feast for them, and then they killed everyone in their sleep. The rumors spread quickly, causing chaos among women across the country. Those, who didn´t leave their homes, stopped obeying their men, and the state of affairs went so far, that men didn´t dare to reproach or even punish women, because they feared that women would slit their throats and flee with valuables to Děvín at night.

Not even the young lord Ctirad escaped the girl’s trick. One day he went hunting with his retinue. As they were riding through the deep forest they suddenly heard calling for help. After a while, following the voice, they saw a girl tied fast to a tree trunk with rope and with a hunting horn around her neck. When she saw them, she started begging them to untie her and to have mercy on her.

Ctirad without any hesitation drew out his sword and freed the beautiful girl. She thanked him and told them, that her name was Šárka, she was a daughter of a lord from Okořín, and that the girls from Děvín kidnapped her, tied her up, and left her to the mercy of destiny. They hung a horn around her neck mockingly, so she could call for help and gave her mead so she wouldn't be thirsty, but they tied her so tightly that she couldn't move a bit. She begged Ctirad to take her back to her father. Ctirad, staring at her beauty, sat down next to Šárka and offered her the mead for refreshment. Tired of the journey, his entire retinue settled in the grass and began to fall asleep because of heat and mead. Only Ctirad did not close his eyes for a moment. He watched Sarka and listened to her voice. After a while, she took her horn and asked Ctirad to use it, that she wants to hear it’s sound.

Suddenly, hordes of armed girls started to run out from the bushes around, shouting battle cries. Ctirad was trapped. Šárka belonged to Vlasta's retinue, which now rushed towards the surprised men. The girls tied Ctirad up to the same spot where he had released the moaning Šárka from a while ago. Now she laughed with the whole Vlasta's retinue, which now led tied up Ctirad to Děvín. No one from Ctirad's retinue escaped death, and Ctirad himself fell into captivity. And that wild valley is till today called after the beautiful girl who defeated them here by trick. 

News that Ctirad had been captured and tortured on Děvín quickly spread. Men outraged by this event and longing for revenge rushed armed to Děvín with Přemysl in lead. They captured many girls and imprisoned them at Vyšehrad. When Vlasta found out, she called all the girls and headed to Vyšehrad. As soon as she saw all the men by the walls, she headed indignantly against them on her horse. She thought the other girls were right behind her. But they couldn´t keep up with her, so Vlasta found herself alone surrounded by men who pulled her off her horse and stabbed her with their swords. When the rest of the girls saw that their leader had fallen, fear seized them all and they started running away. However, the men relentlessly avenged their fallen companions, and although the girls begged them and fell on their knees in front of them, they had no mercy. They didn´t spare them and burned Děvín to dust.

And that is how the Maidens’ War ended, and prince Přemysl again ruled all alone, without any female resistance. But we will never know how it really was back then because the dust of the eyewitnesses was blown by the wind a very long time ago.
