The San Jacinto River Cachers are taking the party north to Lake Conroe this time! A geography lesson for some....Lake Conoe lies on the northern reach of the West Fork San Jacinto River.
The great thing about this camp out is a kayak, boat, etc is not needed to reach the camp out point. To reach the camp site you can either hike ~ 0.75 miles north on the Lone Start Hiking Trail from Trailhead #6 or you can meet Team 150% at the Cagle Recreation Area Boat Ramp at the defined times below.
Notes on Previous Camping Plans
The San Jacinto River Cachers found out yesterday (10/23/20) that the US Forest Service is finally going to fix Stubblefield Bridge starting next week with construction extending through Spring 2021. This will result in the dirt boat ramp next to the bridge being closed, potentially blocking the river at the bridge, and lots of noise near the camp site. For that reason we have decided to cancel these events (GC91HX0,GC91HXC, and GC91HXF) are moving south to another camp ground. The new campground is actually just a place in the Sam Houston National Forest along the Long Star Hiking Trail and this means the events can not be during deer season, which ends January 17th, 2021. For that reason we have the move the camp out back 1 weekend.
Friday - January 22nd, 2021 - 17:00 to 18:00 - Unofficial Event - Load the Boat Event 1 - For those coming on Friday this is time to meet Team 150% at the Cagle Recreation Area boat ramp for a ride to the camp out. This is recommended if you are bringing a kayak and do not want to paddle to the camp out. Note that use of the launch at Cagle Recreation Area costs $5 per day.
Friday - January 22nd, 2021 @ 18:00 - GCXXXXXX - Friday Night Camp Lights! - Come setup your tent or come by and enjoy some camaraderie. Dinner will not be provided however we will have grills going so feel free to bring anything you would like to cook.
Saturday - January 23rd, 2021 - 7:00 to 8:00 - Unofficial Event - Load the Boat Event 2 - For those coming on Saturday this is time to meet Team 150% at the Cagle Recreation Area boat ramp for a ride to the camp out. This is recommended if you are bringing a kayak and do not want to paddle to the camp out. Note that use of the launch at Cagle Recreation Area costs $5 per day.
Saturday - January 23rd, 2021 @ 8:00 AM - Unofficial Event - Whatever we get hid will publish at 8 AM. We are going to reinstitute a previous rule. To claim a smiley you must go to the physical cache. We had no problem with team tackling caches at the last event due to the sheer number that published but this time we will not have as many (north end of Conroe is hard to navigate due to stumps thus slowing us down) and we honestly want to see people caching together instead of divide and conquer. The same rule still applies that if you get there that day you can claim FTF. In addition due to the amount of stumps in Lake Conroe Team 150% is not going to be available to provide effective shuttling.
Saturday - Jan 23rd, 2021 @ 12:00 PM - GCXXXXX - Burning Dogs on the Beach - We will provide the usual hamburger, hotdog, and chip fare.
Saturday - Jan 23rd, 2021 @ 7:00 PM - Unofficial Event - Night Caching on Conroe - For those that have done and enjoyed LHWP Night Cache (GC8HHJH) or love slogging through the deep woods and paddling a lake at night get ready. We are attempting to outdo the LHWP Night Cache and this one should be epic! Note that a kayak or canoe is required to find this cache.
Saturday Jan 23rd @ 8:00 PM - GCXXXXX - 1st Annual Lake Conroe Camp Out - Come and enjoy the camp fire. Marshmallows and smores will be provided (find your own stick lol). Dinner will be potluck and the "cost for dinner attendance" is providing a dinner item or dessert. When logging "Will Attends" please list what you plan to cook or bring. Note that camping and / or providing a dinnier item is not required to attend. To claim smiley you must be at camp ground after 8:00 PM.
Sunday Jan 24th @ 8:00 AM - GCXXXXX - Help us cleanup the campsite after our exciting weekend of camping! Trash bags will be provided
Looking forward to a great time!
