The cache is hidden amongst the ruins of a Turkish Fort or Koules just above the village of Neo Chorio. The cache itself is an antique cigarette tin containing a log book, a pen and a few trinkets.
The fort is in poor condition and can be reached by a small unmarked trail leading from the adjacent roadside.
It occupies a commanding position with magnificent views across the plain of Kalives, the villages at the slope of Lefka Ori and the passage from Apokoronas to Keramia. For this was its purpose as one of the dense networks of defensive towers built by the Turks to control the Cretan rebels after the Great Revolution of 1866.
The Koules originally comprised of a central rectangular building with two semi circular artillery towers on the east and west side. The fort is not well preserved with only a few walls standing.
