Yahetang Community (雅荷塘社区) has an impressive 'Cultural Plaza' (文化广场) installed among the pedestrianized interior alleyways. The plaza is a kind of outdoor living room, busy at most times of the day and night with people of all ages, playing, talking, sitting, exercising or hanging out. Yahetang is pedestrian-dominated and pedestrian-friendly, with car access to most areas difficult or impossible.
The Cultural Plaza is a fairly new addition to Yahetang and emerges surprisingly from the network of pedestrian alleyways, providing a good example of the unexpected elements lurking around the corners in off-the-main-road parts of Guangzhou.
