Geocache Description:

THE TEST OF TARZAN will lead you on a VERY short walk to a FANTASTIC deep and cold swimming hole on the Davidson River complete with a very sturdy ROPE SWING!!!! The cache is a tupperware container hidden in the riverside root system of a large hemlock.

The Pisgah Polar Bear Club is currently a small organization (ahhemm...as in Laughing Moon and myself! ). Our purpose is to seek out the most fun, coldest, awe-inspiring swimming holes in Pisgah National Forest...and yep...you guessed it...plunge in to enjoy the crisp sensation of Autumn and Winter flowing through the water from their high-mountain sources! Not a long swim...but just enough to whisk away your breath momentarily, open your eyes, wake you up out of your 9-5 work-induced cubicle zombie mode, and elevate your wild consciousness to the beauty, ecstasy, and grandeur of swimming in the cooooold mountain waters of the Blue Ridge.

Each cache in this series will lead you to one of our favorite swimming holes. You can choose to simply find the cache, log it, and go back to the couch.....OR....you can PLUNGE IN, swim around a bit, QUICKLY document your proof of swimming the frigid autumnal waters with a camera, and post the photos with your log. If you do this for all of the PPBC (Pisgah Polar Bear Club) caches, you will receive a "diploma", membership in our prestigious club, and maybe something else special! Also, you will receive the privilege of being a little bit more ALIVE than your other cubicle colleagues on Monday morning!

THE TEST OF TARZAN is one of our favorite spots on the Davidson River!! Park at the trailhead parking lot for Looking Glass Rock on FS 475 (Fish Hatchery Rd.) Walk across FS 475 to pick up the trail to the cache and swimming hole.

You are TRULY missing out on one of life's rich experiences if you visit here and do not swing off of the sturdy rope swing! It provides an amazing rush of adrenaline!! If you do not want to tackle the rope, you should at least experience the joy of swimming around in the deep pool below!

The cache is downstream of the pool on River Left (if you were floating downstream). It is located on the edge of the river underneath a hemlock. You will need to scramble down to stand RIGHT BESIDE the river to see it in the root system. It is concealed behind 2 or 3 large stones.

Please hide it back very well! Cache in, Trash out! Have fun!!!!!!!!!
