Back in ancient times (when I was a kid) having a quarter in your pocket made you feel like the richest man in the world. Why, a kid could walk into a corner candy store and leave with enough refined sugar goodness to last a week (never did though).
On a rare occasion, dad would take us to a local hamburger joint that advertised 2 burgers or 2 hot dogs for 25 cents. We always got the burgers.
Nowadays, it takes a whole handful of quarters just to get one candy bar. But have no fear, you can still get yourself a smilie.
MANDITORY E-LEARNING LESSON:
The “QUARTER DOLLAR” coin ($0.25 or 25¢) is worth twenty-five cents and is commonly called a quarter. A quarter used to be called two-bits. A bit is an antiquated term equal to one eighth of a dollar or 12 1⁄2 cents, so "two bits" is twenty-five cents (after the Spanish 8-Real "piece of eight" coin on which the U.S. dollar was initially based).
