Snuffleupagus

Although his friends call him Snuffy, his full name is Aloysius Snuffleupagus. Snuffy's best friend is Big Bird, whom he affectionately calls "Bird."

His favorite foods are cabbage and spaghetti, but he is afraid of fruit. He dislikes apples because he fears they might fall from a tree and hit him on the head, and he dislikes bananas out of fear that he might slip on the peels. Snuffy is also a big fan of opera music. For many seasons of Sesame Street, many people thought that Snuffleupagus was Big Bird's imaginary friend, because he was always out of sight when anyone else from the neighborhood was around--until an episode in 1985. Snuffleupagus debuted on Sesame Steet in 1971.

Sesame Street debuted as an educational television program for preschoolers in 1969. The show uses a combination of puppets, animation and live actors in short vignettes to teach reading, counting and math, cognitive processes, classification and basic life skills. In 2019, to celebrate the 50th Anniverary of Sesame Street, the US Postal Service released a sheet of stamps featuring 16 of the most popular and endearing Sesame Street puppets. This series of caches features these lovable, well-known characters.
