This year, the HAG XVII them is SURVIVAL. I was out getting a cache close by when I had to place one.
On my drive here, I saw the S&R Command Centre set up in the community of Shirley with members deploying from there. If you go down that trail close by, it'll take you down to a nice beach. I was enjoying the beach down that trail close by, and was wonderful as I had the beach all to myself. I started heading back when I heard voices. Then I saw them coming. There were 4 of them, the Search & Rescue (S&R) members, hard at work. I had no mask on at the time, so I stepped off the trail and let them pass, thanking them for what they were doing. One of the woman replied with, "we love what we do", then turned around and said, "well, you know what I mean". I did indeed and thanked her again. You see, they were looking for a missing kayaker. Unfortunately, there was a wind warning the day the kayaker went out on his own. Sometimes, survival is knowing the weather conditions and preparing for it.
Being prepared is the key to any outing. S&R are such an important part of survival and they are there to help.
The cache is a cc special and you'll find it between the twin cedars.
