After heavy rain and a burst water main, the embankment supporting Lea Lane collapsed into the canal and Lea Lane was closed to traffic.
It has since become the most wonderful route for pedestrians and cyclists providing a wide, tree lined almost traffic free route. Views of the canal can be enjoyed on one side and on the other you can see the wall which once contained the Lea Castle estate.
