Geocache Description:

The caches in the Whiminster Wander series can be done in various orders depending on where you begin and smaller groups for cachers with limited time. Car parking is available at Frombridge mill near aroundabout the canal cache, whitminster village by the village hall cache, the water works cache, the lost lock cache and also the saul junction little bridges.

Welcome to another cache in the whitminster wander. Go to posted coordinates and you should be stood on a bridge :) Look towards the road and you will see our wonderful new section of the Stroudwater navigation canal. Up until recently this was completely buried under the roundabout.  With collaboration between the local councils, the national lottery and the highways it was reinstated over the winter of 2019. Sadly it is not connected either side as of yet.

This photo is of us canoeing under the main Bristol rail line at Stonehouse. This very small tunnel is about to be taken out and a proper sized bridge put in. This will open up the canal from Eastington to the Ocean and on to Stroud. This is a major undertaking as the mainline will have to be closed for the duration of the build. The timetable is set and the canal trust have built a large site close to the bridge and are preparing for the day of the build.

There are two laybys to park in if you are doing just this one as a drive by, both are on the Gloucester side of the roundabout very close by.

To find the final coords :-
In the middle of the bridge looking to the fields there is a fence to stop you falling in the canal :)
How many horizontal rails? this is A

The main rails are made in two halves, how many hex bolts hold the top rail together? this is B and C
N 51° 45.9 (A-B) (A+B)' W 2° 19.8 (A-B) (BxC)'

Cache box is in a larger non removeable container, big enough for small travel bugs etc
