CACHING IN THE ALPHABET SERIES..phonetically
This series is centred around two things: A the Phonetic alphabet and B (and perhaps most importantly), paying tribute to those caches who have in some shape or form inspired me, taught me, hiked with me, drank beer with me, assisted me, and perhaps mostly, TOLERATED ME. A big thanks to each one of you and to anyone else I may have forgotten to mention.
THE PHONETIC ALPHABET
In short, the phonetic alphabet (now the NATO phonetic alphabet) was originally developed prior to WW1 to improve communication with archaic two-way radio devices that were often very low quality at that time. To create the phonetic alphabet, code words were assigned acrophonically to each letter of the English alphabet and in addition to the alphabet, numbers 1 through 9 were added. There are a number of different variations of the phonetic alphabet and since it's inception prior to WW1, it has evolved into what is mostly used throughout the world today and is used in all forms of aviation, military, policing, emergency services, marine vessels and more.
As well as you know (or..ahem, should know) there are 26 letters in the english alphabet starting with A (ALFA) and ending with Z (ZULU). In this series, each letter (in most...not all, you will see) cases corresponds with the first letter of the cacher's user name or "handle" that I am paying tribute to. There are a total of 45 caches/cachers in this series.
Please note the majority of caches in this series are mostly easy finds...(once you get to them that is). Getting to many of these caches will involve considerable physical effort especially if you are attempting to bag all 45 of them in one day. Please pay attention to the terrain levels assigned to each cache, take them seriously and prepare accordingly. Cell phone coverage is sketchy at best if not non existent. Let someone know your route, and go with a buddy. Happy caching
The second letter of the English alphabet is B. BRAVO is the code name NATO assigned to this letter. Phonetically it is pronounced "BRAH-VOH" . The number "2" in NATO's Phonetic Alphabet is pronounced "TOO". The cacher I have assigned to this letter/number combination is boombear
