Geocache Description:

The earliest record of a place of worship at this location dates back to the year 1412, when a small chapel decicated to Saint Helen stood here. It remained in place for approximately 300 years when it was replaced by a more substantial church. Data from the 'Collectio Rerum Ecclesiasticarum' from the year 1842 throws some light on why the original chapel was replaced..."In the Parliamentary Survey, vol. xviii. page 359, the Chapelry is thus noticed: Three miles from Leeds. Sixty families. Farnley, Armley, Bramley, and Wortley to be made one parish, and a church to be built in the centre, or most convenient place, for the whole." It appears that this was the most convenient, because it's certainly not the most central. However,  a licence to rebuild the Chapel was granted on the 4th May 1761. The man chosen for the project was John Carr, a prolific architect of the time who was born in the village of Horbury near Wakefield in 1723. One of his most notable projects, certainly within West Yorkshire, is Harewood House, which he designed in conjunction with Robert Adam.

Unfortunately Carr's church did not stand the test of time so well as Harewood House, in fact it lasted a mere 124 years, when it was replaced by the church which stands there now. However, one relic of his church still remains and that is the cupola which would have adorned the roof of the church. It stands in the churchyard just to the right of the gated entrance off Lawns Lane. The current church, built in a Gothic revival style, was built in 1885 and was designed by Chorley and Connon of Leeds. Among there list of designs is the Hotel Metropole and Quebec House, both in the city centre. Up to 2010 the chuch was part of the Church of England but its upkeep became unsustainable and was transfered to the Romanian Orthodox Church in October 2011. The church's parish covers Yorkshire and Greater Manchester and falls under the control of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of Suthern and Western Europe which is based in Paris.

The cache is not at the listed coordinates, these will take you to the actual church and the recommended parking location. The cache is located within a short ditance of the church grounds, and the final location can be found by solving the puzzle located here  https://www.jigidi.com/solve/nj7cnr6s/new-farnley-church/

The final location can be very muggly, especially at school attendance times, and it's a very popular area with dog walkers. Please be mindful of this and try not to give the location away. It is also very close to a road, and although speed is restricted to 20 mph please keep an eye on any small geocachers who are out finding treasure.
