Flag of Burkina Faso

The national flag of Burkina Faso is shaped by two equal horizontal stripes of red at the top and green at the bottom, with a yellow five-pointed star fixed in the center. On 4 August 1984 the flag was official adopted to signify the nation. The Burkina Faso Flag has popular Pan-African colors of the Ethiopian flag, dazzling both a break with the country’s foreign past and its agreement with other African ex-colonies.

The red symbolize the revolution and the green the profusion of agricultural and natural riches. The yellow star located over the red and green bands is the supervisory light of the revolution. In addition, Flag of Burkina Faso has coat of arms of Burkina Faso featuring a shield with the national flag colors.

History of Burkina Faso Flag

The original flag used in this area was the flag of Higher Volta. This flag contained a tricolor plan of black, white and red. The colors of this flag were representative of the Volta River’s major branches. This flag was castoff until 1984 when Upper Volta was called Burkina Faso. The current flag that is in usage today was accepted at that time. The original flag of Upper Volta, accepted at independence, confined three horizontal stripes of black, white, and red. These colors signified the three major branches of the Volta River, which movements south complete the country: the Black Volta, the White Volta and the Red Volta. It is alike to the tricolor flag castoff by the German Empire from 1871 to 1918. The flag was altered when Upper Volta developed Burkina Faso on 4 August 1984.

The red represents the recent rebellion, the green the profusion of natural riches and the yellow star the supervisory light of that revolution. The flag of Burkina Faso landscapes the traditional Pan-African colors. These colors were designated to characterize the independence of the nation and its unity with additional ex-colonies in Africa. The colors also represent the revolution and agriculture.
