Geocache Description:

This cache brings you to two historic markers, Hogtown, and Anvil Park Ranch.

In 1886, this site was the location of nearby Canadian's predecessor, Hogtown. When the landowner and railroad reached an impasse regarding land prices, the railroad moved their operations across the river where Canadian is today.

Anvil Park was a 5,000 acre ranch, started in 1891 by a blacksmith (anvil!!). It was well known for its annual rodeos that drew as many as 8,000 visitors for their 3-day events between 1918-1941. The land was sold to Texas Parks and Wildlife in 1951 for game breeding purposes.

Cache in, trash out! If there's trash at this stop, please haul out at least one piece!
