Across the canal from the cache, an art academy set up under the Qing dynasty has recently opened as a memorial, with some attractive landscaping along the canal. This Baidu link explains the name: "Ten kinds of fragrant flowers [...] were once planted in the courtyard, hence the name "Ten Fragrant Garden". Ju Lian set up apprentices here, and cultivated a large number of modern art talents. Among them, Gao Jianfu and Chen Shuren, one of the founders of the Lingnan School of Painting, are represented. Therefore, Shixiangyuan is also known as the "cradle of the Lingnan School of Painting". [...] Ten Fragrant Garden Memorial Hall is dedicated to showcasing the inheritance and development of Lingnan painting and calligraphy culture, is committed to maintaining the heirs and descendants of the Lingnan painting school at home and abroad, and is also committed to serving the general public and tourists, providing a place for everyone to display the artistic achievements of Lingnan painting and calligraphy masters. The original place of calligraphy and calligraphy by contemporary famous artists, a place for the education and practice of calligraphy and calligraphy art for teenagers, and a cultural and leisure tourist spot for citizens."
The memorial has been impressively incorporated into the ground floor level of modest 9-10 storey walk-up housing probably built in the 1980s or 1990s.
