Shute Park is Hillsboro’s first park. It was originally the site of a brickyard, which provided many of the bricks used to build downtown Hillsboro. The site was purchased in 1906 from John W. Shute with the condition that it be used as a park and named in his honor.
In its time it included a pavilion used for dances, skating, and later as an armory. Shute Park also hosted county fairs before the current fairground was built.
Shute Park still hosts many amenities, including restrooms, picnic areas, a playground, a stage, a branch of the Hillsboro library, a ballot drop box, a bicycle repair station, and the Community Senior Center. Nearby is the Shute Park Aquatic and Recreation Center, and a pickleball court.
It also has a geocache. This short multi will lead you to it.

To find the final, visit the three waypoints and use the answers to find a book inside the library that will direct you to the final cache location. The book is in the Adult Non-Fiction area and has the call number ABC.
Waypoint A is a bell displayed near the northeast corner of the parking lot. The bell has a name. If it is:
- Big Joe, A = 1
- Centennial Bell, A = 2
- Hillsboro Liberty and Peace Bell, A = 3
- Let Freedom Ring, A = 4
- Old Tom, A = 5
- St. Matthew, A = 6
- Uncle George, A = 7
- The Founders Bell, A = 8
Waypoint B is a dog sculpture in front of the Hillsboro Community Senior Center. In his tail there is an orange and white ball with a number. If the number is:
- 5, B = 0
- 13, B = 9
- 25, B = 8
- 99, B = 7
- 1944, B = 6
- 1776, B = 5
- 2006, B = 4
- 2020, B = 3
Waypoint C was an information sign titled “1906 Shute Park Centennial 2006”. It has been removed. While I work on a fix to the cache page, use the answer indicated below:
- Celebration, C = 1.04
- Centennial, C = 2.698
- County, C = 3.11
- Crowd, C = 4.825
- Fair, C = 5.196
- Society, C = 6.58 <-Choose this one
- Park, C = 7.222
- Years, C = 8.986
