Note the Kalapuyan word for Bison, is the Chinuk Wawa word. There were lots of borrowing back and forth and intermixing of Chinuk Wawa and Kalapuyan in nearly all samples. It was more common than we all know to use other words from other languages if you did not have one in your language. Since Kalapuyans had little or no interaction with Bison (there was some, through trade in furs) they may not have had a word. And its likely all Kalapuyans knew both Chinuk Wawa and several Kalapuyan dialects.
