A tasty little treat in the heart of a historic town in the foothills of Placer County. First known as Alder Gulch and later Illinostown. Finally getting is name from U. S. Senator (later Vice President) Schuyler Colfax who visited the place in 1865. Colfax dating back to the 1840's was a town rich in mining, fruit growing, and of course the transcontinental railroad. Today it's a colorful, friendly little recreational town that sits between the Bear and American rivers, Rollins lake, and off HWY 80 sitting just 44 miles Southwest of Truckee. Tagged as being above the fog and below the snow. Although the snow does not always get the message! This cache was placed to bring people off the HWY, and to explore off the beaten path. Owner knows the cache is there. No need to move or climb on anything. Just take in the beauty of the building and maybe stop and feel the cold metal of the steal doors that are still in place among the historic main street. FTF will get a tasy gift :D
