Cemetery Island
Literally , a small island on the east side of Isle Royle in Lake Superior. Under the care of the National Park Service.
This abandoned place contains 9 marked/partitally marked graves dating from the 1850's
The graves are associated mostly with the area's copper mining community. 1 belonging to an infant and others associated wth the deadliest wreck ever seen on Lake superior, the sinking in 1885 of the steamer Algoma and the loss of 46 passengers and crew.
The are is a lonely place full of quiet, stillness and mystique.
