This MC will take around the municipal area and the memorial garden,
going through some part of history and modern Haifa.
Your clue search starts next to city hall.
1) CITY HALL
somewhat north, you will be in front of the big arch entrance to Haifa City hall where to this day council meeting are held.
this building was planned by Benjamin Tsykin and was inaugurated on 29 of June 1943. Till this day it still serves the city, yet some municipal position moved to the newer engineering building to the south.
To the left of the blue plaque there are A light projectors (ground level).
2) The Peace mosaic.
A bit to the north west in front of city hall.
In 2007 the Duke of Edinburgh came to Israel to inaugurate the mosaic in honor of 50 years of activity of “The International Award for Young People” a self-development program. Using experiential learning in four carefully selected areas: Physical Recreation, Skills, Adventurous Journey and Community Service, young people are equipped with essential life skills to make a difference to themselves and their communities.
One such area and its purpose:
The Adventurous Journey – overcoming physical, social and mental challenges; strengthening self-confidence, teamwork and enhancing problem solving particularly in unfamiliar environments.
There are B number of red squares. (this one is tricky!!)
3) The old District courthouse.
To the north west across the road about 60 m’
Built in 1931 inaugurated in 1932 this building served as the District courthouse till 2003 when the new courthouse was built in the government quarter.
The building is of a one store with a wide entrance in a symmetrical front. Was designed by Osten Harrison the chiff architect during the British mandate on Israel.
In 2006 it was decided to move State Comptroller's Offices to the old District courthouse.
The building was renovated with a 28000000 NIS investment.
Prior to his appointment as State Comptroller the late Micha Lindenstraus officiated as president of the old district courthouse. ‘the move to this historical building is in a sense a return home.’
According to the silver plaque the renovation to the building ended in 20C.
4) Memorial Garden
Crossing the road to the north heading a bit east you find yourself in the entrance to memorial garden. At the end of the battle on the city of Haifa soldiers who survived demanded that a memorial for the fallen will be built in the city. A comity had to decide where it will be built, who will it commemorate and from what money will it be built.
It was decided to be built in front of city hall (which was problematic cause the ground belonged to the government and not to Haifa). It will commemorate the 400 soldiers from Haifa that fell during the war of independence. Getting the approval from the government took time and when it came plans that were approved did not come to bear. Finally during the 5th year of the state, a memorial garden was planted and later on memorial items were added. In recent years (2017) this place has succumbed to underage male prostitution. This problem is being delt with education and charities for children.

name plaque lane: to the north east from the entrance there is a lane with marble plaques. Commemorated here are the units, squads, and operations that soldiers who were of Haifa origin, died in action.

In front of this stage the memorial service for the fallen soldiers of Haifa was held. this was true in the first two years of the garden before there was an annual Memorial Day. Now days the ceremony is held at the Haifa military graveyard in the south of the city.
On the back of the wall there are F number of rusted flag holders
In 2007 a mother and her disabled son visited a park around Haifa, trying to use the swings with her boy who suffers from Cerebral Palsy proved impossible.
At that moment it was clear to here that there should be a playground that her son could use the swings and so she started working to fulfil that cause. It took some effort and time and ten years later Haifa municipality have built this playground with adaptations for kids with special needs. In her own words “for me this is a dream come true”. Here there are two levels of playground with small stairs and a ramp connecting each other. You have a chair swing, a merry-go-round and a seesaw fit for a wheelchair as well as other facilities so all kids can come and play.
