Położenie

Gród i zamek
Wzmianki o grodzie jako stałej siedzibie kasztelana pochodzą z 1221 r. W wyniku prac archeologicznych zidentyfikowano pierwotny poziom użytkowania grodu, który był niższy o około 7 m od współczesnego i odpowiadał poziomowi otaczającego terenu. Gród uległ zniszczeniu w latach 1282-1286 podczas najazdu Litwinów i był nie używany aż do XIV wieku.
W 1368 r. wystawiony został przez księcia mazowieckiego Siemowita III dokument potwierdzający wcześniejszą lokację miasta. W latach 1351 i 1355 r. poświadczono tu już trwającą budowę zamku. W 1377 r. na zjeździe szlachty na tym zamku ogłoszono tzw. „Statut Mazowiecki” - pierwszy dokument regulujący procedury prawne w księstwie. Zamek w tym okresie miał kształt nieregularny dostosowany do kształtu nadsypanego wzgórza.
Przebudowa zamku i wieża bramna to okres XVI wieku, gdy starostą został Krzysztof Szydłowiecki, który już zastał tu zamek otoczony dwoma wałami z drewnianą zabudową dziedzińca. W XVII wieku nadsypano dziedziniec i wyremontowano zamek przez Stanisława Radziejowskiego, wojewodę łęczyckiego i starostę sochaczewskiego. Zniszczony i ograbiony w latach 1655-1657 popadł w ruinę. W XVIII wieku za czasów starosty Kazimierza Walewskiego zamek był w zasadzie dworem i mieścił kancelarię i archiwum grodzkie.

Location
The ruins of the castle in Sochaczew are located on the edge of the escarpment on the Bzura River, south of the town situated along the river and the route between Kalisz and Wyszogród to Płock and Prussia, at the intersection with the route from Russia to Poznań. The so-called The Castle Hill was surrounded by double embankments and moats on the south and partially eastern sides, while on the north it was separated by a deep ravine carved by the waters of the Czerwonka stream.
Stronghold and castle
Mentions of the first wooden castle as the permanent seat of the castellan comes from 1221. As a result of archaeological works, the original level of use of the wooden castle was identified, which was about 7 m lower than the present one and corresponded to the level of the surrounding area. The stronghold was destroyed in the years 1282-1286 during the Lithuanian invasion and was not used until the 14th century.
In 1368, Siemowit III, the Duke of Mazovia, issued a document confirming the town's earlier location. In the years 1351 and 1355, the ongoing construction of the castle was confirmed here. In 1377, at a congress of the nobles in this castle, the so-called The "Mazovian Statute" - the first document regulating legal procedures in the principality was accepted here. At that time, the castle had an irregular shape adapted to the shape of a spilled hill.
The reconstruction of the castle and the gate tower date back to the 16th century, when Krzysztof Szydłowiecki became the starost, who already found a castle here surrounded by two ramparts with wooden buildings in the courtyard. In the 17th century, the courtyard was added and the castle was renovated by Stanisław Radziejowski, the voivode of Łęczyca and the starost of Sochaczew. Destroyed and plundered in the years 1655-1657, it fell into ruin. In the 18th century, during the reign of Kazimierz Walewski, the castle was actually a manor house and housed an office and a town archive.
The next destruction was the Kościuszko Uprising and the burning of the castle by the Prussian army. Despite this, in the 19th century there were two towers here, and the castle fell into decline.
After World War II, the castle, in the form of a permanent ruin, stood on a hill, and the losses of the hill were temporarily patched. In 2011-2013, the hill was revitalized along with archaeological works. There has also been a discussion on the reconstruction of the castle for years.
