Geocache Description:

I would like to thank a great friend of mine for his help in placing some of these M-185 Circle Tour caches. This past fall, I was heading up to Mackinac Island to replace the caches along M-185. Along my route, my vehicle broke down, and a very good friend of mine came to my rescue. He and his wife drove for two hours in the late evening to pick me up. They are known in the geocaching community as "Team Kalsin." I met Team Kalsin around 2008, and I feel blessed to know them both.

Besides coming to my recuse, Doug (of Team Kalsin) offered to go to Mackinac Island with me to help me replace these caches. This is typical of Doug's generous attitude. I felt a bit guilty accepting his offer, but did so. I am so glad that I did, as his help was indispensable. Besides what we were able to replace on that day, it still took me another trip to complete the replacing of island caches. I truly appreciate all that Team Kalsin has done for me and my family.

The terrain of Mackinac Island is varied. Once you head away from the shoreline, the elevation increases. Mostly smaller rolling terrain once you're on top. Transportation on the island is limited to walking, bicycling or horses. I have not placed any cache that would require you to scale any steep grade. If you think you need to climb or descend any steep grade, there's a better way to approach from a different road or trail.

This cache is located along M-185. This road follows the shore line around Mackinac Island. This road is 8.3 miles long.

Most caches are close to the trail or road, at most, a dozen or two steps off. There are a number of points of interest to stop and take in the sights. If you use a bicycle, please remember to park your bike off of the trail or road.

I highly recommend to stop at the island's information booth at N45 50.971 W84 37.075 to get a map of the island. You can also download a copy by visiting thislink. I have created this web page with general information for geocaching on Mackinac Island.

I read many of the logs that are posted on my caches, but sometimes I can't read all emails. If you find a problem with any of my caches, please post a "Needs Maintenance" log. Logs of that type are filtered into a special inbox that gets 100% read. Thank you.

For all of my caches placed within the Mackinac State Historical Parks managed areas, a permit has been filed.
