It is a myth that Holden Hill is named after Holden and other brand motor vehicles.

Originally a private subdivision. The name is the corruption of the name of Robert Halden, an original 1840s landowner in the area.
The suburb is named after "Halden's Hill", a name given to a road extension in 1855. The road ran through land owned by Mr R. Halden.

As late as 1935 the area was referred to in the District Council minutes as 'Halden Hill'.

Valiant Road existed in 1936. but Chrysler Valiants were not introduced until 1962.

The developers of the suburb decided to name the streets after motor vehicle brands including Mercedes, Bentley, Cortina, Riley, Humber, Simca, Chrysler, Brabham and Alvis.
