This cache is located in Epping Forest, by the edge of our family favourite mountain bike segment. We love it as it's a twisty downhill stretch leading us back home from the forest.
The tree in which the cache is located is situated on a hill to the side of the path and feels a bit like a hill fort if you walk into it from behind (need to negociate a bit of holly) and stand and survey the area below through the trunks.
There are lots of criss crossing paths in this area but if you hit the correct path you will pass this tree. It is large with four separate trunks (a little like a royal crown), a platform area between them and large mossy feet.
The path can be accessed by turning off and downhill from the main footpath from Piercing Hill to Coppice Row. It heads down to Theydon Bois through the Genesis Slade valley. As you are heading downhill there is a left fork in the trail that you need to take. It can easily be missed as it seems to head into a hollybush.
The track up from Theydon is quite well defined particularly if you start where the stream crosses Piercing Hill and keep initially quite close to the forest edge. Again you need to take a left form part way up, and head down and up over a ditch towards the tree. This area can be muddy.
I've added some images of the tree as it's a wooded area which can make the coordinates a little inaccurate. And there's a lot of trees. Obviously.
This cache is the home of The Little Black Cat trackable. She is on a mission to see the world as lockdown has given her itchy feet. We hope one day she returns to her roots.
You are looking for a large yoghurt pot sized container.
Epping Forest is owned and managed by the Corporation of London and we have permission to place the cache here, within the SSSI.
