***gps is usually very jumpy in this area- so you will have to look around once the gps gets you close to ground zero- the cache itself is what you will notice first and know you are in the correct location to begin cracking the code 😀
This cache may take a while, it is rated a difficulty of 4.5! You will want to bring along a notepad! Don't let that the rating scare you off from attempting to log the smiley though! This is actually meant to be a very fun cache to enjoy solving with the whole family. It is a kid friendly puzzle cache, Just make sure you bring bug spray and wear protective shoes/clothing and once you get to ground zero we hope you enjoy your experience with this puzzle cache!
The trick of this cache is not finding the ammo can, the trick will be "cracking the code" that will open the ammo can. The ammo can (the SAFE ) itself is hidden in a very traditional manner. To claim a find, your name must make it on the log! *DO NOT POST ANY SPOILER IMAGES IN YOUR LOGS- THEY WILL GET DELETED IF THEY GIVE AWAY ANY OF THE CLUES OR The LOCATION HINTS FOR THEM!!*
DO NOT force anything. Do not bring pry bars, acetylene torches, bolt cutters, explosives, or any other aggressive tools to open the cache. It will become very obvious how to open the cache when you find it.
You will need to find three (3) clues around ground zero in order to figure out how to open the cache. All of the clues are firmly SECURED within 25 feet of the cache. ( the stump is NOT one.) Use the first letter of each clue to open the lock. For example, if you found an "Apple" as one of the clues, you would use A in the lock. After you find the 3 clues, putting the letters in the correct order is the next challenge.
The lock is a traditional rotation lock but uses letters instead of numbers.
***OPENING THE LOCK***
first rotate it several times in a clockwise direction, stopping on the first letter of the combination.
rotate the dial to the left 2 full rotations-stopping on the 2nd letter on the 2nd rotation to the left.
rotate clockwise again until reaching the third letter of the combination to unlock the lock.
There are 6 possible combinations using the 3 letters- you will need to try all possible options until successfully able to unlock it!
The container contains 3 bags inside it. 1 large bag full of swag items. - please remember to be respectful and if you take items, always leave items of similar value and amounts in exchange, to ensure it remains fully stocked for others after you.
1 medium bag is specifically for trackable coins and travel buddies. These are special items unlike swag, that are meant to be logged via their unique codes, and then moved to new cache locations for another geocacher to then log and move. These are NOT collectible items, and generally are not meant to be kept by finders, but rather only taken by cachers who will log them immediately in the app and then place them in another cache within a reasonable timeframe.
The 3rd bag contains the official log book for the cache- this is what you will sign and date to record your successful completion of the puzzle and get that smiley for this cache.
As usual, please re-hide just as well as you found it. do NOT move ANY of the clues or the physical cache container from their original locations!
BEFORE LEAVING:
Please reclose all the ziplock bags correctly. latch the ammo can tightly until it clicks down completely, make sure the combo lock is properly secured and locked as well, and sit container upright in its original spot.
**IMPORTANT **
Please do not leave the container without relocking the combo lock completely, as this is the main part of the puzzle engagement. Thank you.
