In late 2013 the Mormon Church completed a deal to purchase 382,864 acres from the St. Joe timberlands for $565 million. The acres are located in Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, and Wakulla counties. Completion of this deal gave the Church 678.000 acres, an area larger than any other private holding in Florida, according to the widely shared but unconfirmed ranking of top landowners.
Dessert Ranch has more than 60 years of ranching and agricultural operation in Florida. They own many acres across Orange, Osceola, and Brevard counties in Florida. The ranch is one of the nation’s largest producers of calves and manages thousands of acres in citrus graves, vegetable farms, and timberland.
