Geocache Description:

The first generation of wormhole caches were published in 2010, the series started with three caches. Fast forward to now, and a tradition continues to carry on. We hope you enjoy this 2021 April Fool’s Day prank!

Thanks again to Team Gates for keeping this tradition alive.

Fifty Sports Illustrated Sportstowns – one from each state – were announced between July 2003 and July 2004.  Troy was named as the Sportstown for Michigan.  The special Michigan section appeared in SI’s February 9, 2004 issue.  The selections were made jointly by Sports Illustrated and the National Recreation and Park Association, based on criteria that demonstrated community involvement in facilitating and enhancing quality sports. Each Sportstown received a cash grant and a special commemorative road sign, designating the community an official Sports IllustratedSportstown.

SI President Bruce Hallett explained, “Troy’s commitment to finding creative and resourceful ways to enhance sports for the well being of its community fits perfectly with the principles of our Sportstown program, as well as the overall mission of our anniversary celebration. Troy is clearly committed to inclusion and lifelong sports participation,” said NRPA Executive Director John Thorner. “In establishing and implementing programs for preschoolers, youth, adults, senior citizens and persons with disabilities, as well as by supporting independent sport programs throughout the community, Troy serves as an excellent example of a Sports Illustrated Sportstown.”

You will need to connect with the beautiful parks and facilities Troy has created to help foster this great recreational community.  Use the map to find the cache.
