CRGT - Burg Güssing
Bollwerk gegen den Osten.
Burg Güssing wurde bereits 1157 auf dem steilen Felsen eines erloschenen Vulkankegels erbaut. Nach mehrmaligem Besitzwechsel gelangte die Burg 1524 in den Besitz der Familie Batthyány. Im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert wurde sie zur Festung ausgebaut und sollte als Bollwerk dienen – vor allem gegen die Armeen aus dem Osten. Mit dem Verlust ihrer strategischen Bedeutung gab man die Burg im 18. Jh. dem Verfall preis – die damalige "Dachsteuer" machte eine Erhaltung für den Besitzer unerschwinglich. 1870 brachte Fürst Philipp Batthyány eine Stiftung ein und seither steht die Burg Güssing im Eigentum dieser.
Unbezahlbare Schätze.
Die Burg Güssing steht aber nicht nur für eine große Militär- und Familiengeschichte, sondern auch für seine Kunstschätze. Gut 5000 Exponate zeigen in den heutigen Ausstellungsräumen, wie lebendig und faszinierend Geschichte sein kann. Die Ausstellungen in der Hochburg beinhalten umfassende Themen der einstigen Alltäglichkeiten der Herrschaft sowie Bürgerschaft.

CRGT - Güssing Castle
Bulwark against the east.
Güssing Castle was built in 1157 on the steep rock of an extinct volcanic cone. After several changes of ownership, in 1524 the castle came into the possession of the Batthyány family. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was turned into a fortress and was intended as a stronghold especially against invading armies from the east. With the loss of its strategic importance, the castle fell into ruin in the 18th century, because the roof tax that was levied at the time made the preservation of the building unaffordable for the owner. Without an intact roof, the tax did not have to be paid. In 1870 Prince Philipp Batthyány established a trust which still owns Güssing Castle.
Priceless treasures.
Güssing Castle is known not only for great military and family history, but also for its exquisite art treasures. The more than 5,000 objects on display in the castle museum show how lively and fascinating history can be. The comprehensive exhibits help to explain the everday lives of both rulers and common citizens in the past.

CRGT - Grad Güssing
Utrdba proti Vzhodu.
Grad Güssing je bil zgrajen že leta 1157 na strmi skali ugaslega vulkanskega stožca. Po večkratni menjavi lastnikov je leta 1524 prešel v last družine Batthyány. V 16. in 17. stoletju je bil prezidan v trdnjavo, ki naj bi služila kot utrdba – predvsem proti četam z Vzhoda. Z izgubo strateškega pomena je bil grad v 18. stoletju prepuščen propadu – zaradi takratnega "davka na streho" lastnik ni bil več zmožen vzdrževati gradu. Knez Philipp Batthyány je leta 1870 ustanovil fundacijo in od takrat je grad Güssing v lasti njegove rodbine.
Neprecenljivi zakladi.
Grad Güssing ni znan zgolj po sloviti vojaški in družinski zgodovini, ampak tudi po svojih umetnostnih zakladih. Približno 5.000 razstavnih predmetov v današnjih razstavnih prostorih prikazuje, kako živa in zanimiva je lahko zgodovina. Razstave v trdnjavi zaobjemajo obširne teme iz nekdanjega vsakodnevnega življenja oblastnikov in meščanstva.
