Geocache Description:

Welcome to "Michele's Canal"! Ever since we moved into the nearby neighborhood in the late 1990's, GamerMich has been extremely appreciative that we have this nearby canal. At least twice per week, she used to walk along the path adjacent to the canal with our dog (Dobi from 1997 - 2012, Jake from 2015 - 2024)...she still sometimes strolls the canal with her devoted husband or with a good friend...we've even kayaked the waters of the canal! It's a wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the world...a place she can let her dog run free and connect with nature, all within walking distance of our home. Lately, she's been walking along the canal on the north end of the nearby field, enjoying the serenity of the water, then looping to the south at the bend and coming out on SW 136 Street.

And now we're inviting all of you to enjoy Michele's Canal! This is an easy two-stage multi-cache. After leaving your geovehicle at the parking coordinates, start your adventure on the south side of the canal by stepping around the fence where it meets the bridge (until late 2024, there was a magical hole in the fence at the trailhead coordinates that was recently closed up). Thirty seconds later, you will arrive at the posted coordinates for this cache, where you will see a huge stone pillar. On the pillar's east side, you will gather your information to locate the final. On the stone pillar, you will see is a cluster of three metal tags at about head-level and, below those three, a stray additional tag at about waist/chest level to the right. Look at the number on the bottom-most tag of those cluster-of-three and add the last three digits from the number to your North coordinates. Then, collect the last digit from the stray solo tag...from the upper-left tag from the cluster...and from the upper-right tag from the cluster. No adding or subtracting involved this time...those are, in order, the last three digits for the west coordinates. Your final coordinates will be N25 38. _ _ _ and W80 22. _ _ _.

Now walk along the canal, on the north side of the field, until you reach the final for this multi-cache. This field used to have decades-old abandoned pet tombstones strewn about (which made it very interesting to wonder about) -- one that was dedicated to dogs named Kiki and Dutchess used to be right in front of the cache -- but the stones were recently removed. Once you've found the cache, please make sure to cover it with an ample supply of foliage or rocks to protect it from view. The container was originally a regular sized tupperware container with swag for trading...now it's a medium-sized taped racquetball container with swag within (some of the less-attractive swag was rescued from the damaged original container). No pen, so bring your own writing implement. Note: Your socks and shoes may pick up a few burrs along the way, but that's a small price to pay for a canal-stroll multi-cache geoadventure!

Enjoy the journey...and cache on!
