The north end of Branton Hill Lane is now a much quieter place than in the recent past. In 2009 residents won their campaign to halt heavy lorries constantly using the lane to access the Quarry Landfill site run by Bliss Sand & Gravel. Planning permission was gained and a new access road from the site was constructed, to link to the Chester Road to the south thereby ending access via Branton Hill Road. Prior to the new road being laid there was some archaeological work undertaken as there had been five previous archaeological finds adjacent to the proposed access road route. These include worked flints of Mesolithic and Neolithic (c 10000BC – 2350BC) age, prehistoric (Iron Age, c 800BC – AD42) earthworks, and evidence of a charcoal burner’s site of medieval date.
