The Katy railroad traveled through the city east and west, while the Santa Fe railroad went north and south.
The Santa Fe depot of 1901 was the railroad’s second station in Garland and replaced a depot built in 1886. It was located at this cache site south of the track crossing. This picture shows the depot with the control windows facing the tracks at the orginial location.
In 1972, the depot was turned 180 degrees and relocated 150 feet further north, decomissioned and turned into a museum, and in 2014 it was moved again to its current location to make room for an apartment complex built behind city hall. The depot now sits near cache GC9835N.
