This cache has been archived.

huggy_d1: Given the cache has been disabled for an extended period of time, and the container is gone, cache is hereby archived. Please refer to http://www.policy.ncgeocachers.com to obtain a copy of the special use permit for NC State Parks should you decide to place a cache in an NC State Park. Geocache Description:

This cache is designed for first-timers especially. Easy to find legs and the final is not a long walk. Final leg must be walked though and cannot be biked (for reasons that will be obvious)

This one is intended to be an easy way to get used to the multi-cache system. The cache starts with mostly stuff that kids should like so feel free to take something for each kid and just be sure to leave something for each thing you take. Graves are easy to find and only a few steps from the car. Final location involves walking in sand. When you get there, hang around and don't just glide away. At the coordinates for the final cache, be careful of the surroudnings that you don't disturb things. (Thanks go to VA Traveler for helping me put some road names in the hint for the second site!)

Here is what you do. Go to the first location as sited above. When you get there, you will need to find the grave of a person named Corinna S. Owens. Then answer the following questions

When was Corinna S. Owens born? (month, day and year, written like this 01/01/1982)

A=____ B=____ / C=_____ D=_____ / E = ______ F = _______ G= _____ H=_____

How old would Corinna S. Owens have been on her next birthday (if she had not died before it)? J = ______ K = _______

Now, for the next phase, you have to use the numbers next to the letters above and decode the following coordinates:

N – H Gº G F. K E C
W - 75º 39. C H B

When you get there, find the grave of Walter Bailey Gray, Sr. and his wife, Evelyn Wise Gray. Now answer these questions just like above:

What is the month and day (not year) that Mrs. Gray died? L = _____ M = _______ / N = ________ P = _________

When did Mr. Gray die? Q = _____ R =______ / S = ______ T = ______ / U =______ V =_______ W=_______ X= _______

Now the final co-ordinates for the cache are
N - 35º G P. F X G
W - 75º H F. Q M G

PLEASE NOTE - at the final location, you will be tempted between concrete and sand. When that happens, choose sand. If you choose concrete, which seems quicker, you will be VERY disappointed. Confusing but it will be clear at the time. Choose the sandy way.

Contents of Easy as 1-2-3 at time of placement

Log book and Pen (please do not remove)
4 pairs of children’s sunglasses
8 water pistols
2 toy motorcycles
8 erasers shaped like crayons
2 smiley face on lanyard bubble mixes
7 bouncy balls
1 Coleman Mosquito repeller with battery
5 unsharpened pencils

I hope you like it!

The second step is in the Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve. Directions to the area, per their website are "DIRECTIONS: To visit the preserve take US 158 to Kill Devil Hills. Turn west near Mile Post 9 1/2 on Ocean Acres Drive and drive through a residential subdivision for a mile until you reach the forest and the visitors' center. Trail maps and guides are available at the visitors' center." Hopefully this will help be sure everyone else finds this as EASY as 1-2-3. Once you get to the Preserve, you still have to find the grave but at least you won't be wandering lost in subdivisions.
