Back in 1976, this 34 acre area of land was acquired by the Village of Plover (Portage County). It has been in use as a park for over 50 years, per this enthusiast's memories. As a child, I spent many a day watching the adult men's softball teams warm up in the area that is now the current boat ramp parking. Not a great place to throw a ball around now. In those days, the main guys on the team were Bill, Frank, the Lila boys, and all the Higgins boys.
The park also featured water skiing, swimming, and jumping from the rope swing into the river. If you look closely at one of the giant trees in the picnic area, you may be able to see remnants of numerous ropes. From what we understand, the rope swing moved east of the current boat landing where the cache, Abby's Hideaway, can be found.
Where the cache is hidden is in an area that we never ventured as kids. We knew we would be lost in the swamp before we could find the horse paddocks on the adjacent property.
A good place to park would be the current picnic area. During certain seasons, please do a picker/ tick check before you leave.
