Geocache Description:

***CACHE IS NOT AT POSTED COORDINATES***

The cache is nearby, but you must complete the Fort Monmouth History Walk Adventure Lab to obtain the final coordinates.

Welcome to the 'Main Post' of Fort Monmouth, sometimes referred to as the "Soul of the Signal Corps", a former US Army installation active between 1917 and 2011.

The post was primarily home to several units of the Army Material Command and offices of the Army Acquisition Executive (AAE) that research and manage Command and Control, Communications, Computing, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) capabilities, and related technology. The post was also home to an inter-service organization designed to coordinate C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance), a West Point preparatory school, an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) unit, a garrison services unit, an Army health clinic, and a Veterans Administration health clinic. The FBI, the NSA, and FEMA have all also had presences on the post.

The post closed on September 15, 2011, after most of the Army functions and personnel moved to Aberdeen Proving Ground and other Army facilities in Maryland and Ohio. The property is currently being redeveloped by the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA)
