Geocache Description:

These small pumps are a historic link to our past, and part of our national heritage, and deserve to have a national numbered series on them.
If you would like to place a cache in the Village Water Pumps series, feel free to do so, but please contact mcc_ first at mccftfs@gmail.com so they can keep track of numbers and names. The bookmark list can be found HERE.

Standing in the centre of South Petherwin on the corner of the junction between the main B3254

Launceston to Liskeard road and Trewarlett road is the old village pump.

It is much changed from the original and no longer works.

But for generations, it was the main source of the village’s water.

To find the cache you need to look at the writing under the outlet of the pump there are two words.

It’s the top word that you will need.

You will need to work out the numerical values of the letters as they are placed in the alphabet . So as

an example the letter A = 1 B = 2 and so on.

Where there are two digits for one letter they need to be added so Q = 17 which then equals 8.

The cache can be found at : N 50°36.1st letter, 5th letter , 3rd letter

W004°22.7 th letter , 6th letter , (4th-5th letter)

Checksum of all unknown digits of the cache = 23
