There used to be an old railroad trestle here, but the county recently tore it down and now there is only an awkward dip in the trail. The Spokane and Inland Empire Railroad Company (S.&I.E.R.R.Co.) was an electrified interurban railway operating in Spokane, Washington in the early 1900s. A line was bulit around 1908 south into the Palouse Country, eventually reaching Colfax, Washington, and Moscow, Idaho. This extension was operated under the name Spokane and Inland Empire. The last electric line run to Moscow was recorded in April, 1939.
This is a great trail to hike that will take you along the Palouse River. Just before the cache is a bench and a rocky area with a few rapids in the river. During certain times of the year, you might find an angler or kids swimming when the water dips low and forms a pool in this area. Keep an eye out for wildlife in the area - mostly deer and birds. Please obey the posted rules and close the gates. It is about a mile to cache area.
