Geocache Description:

This is the site of the First National Bank. Reportedly, the First National Bank bought this lot in June 1884 and built a stone building. National Bank received its charter in Scandia in 1887 and later moved to 1820 M Street in Belleville. In 1894 the bank moved to 1720 M Street where it remained until November 6, 1965. At that time, the bank moved to a new building at 1205 18th Street. The name was changed to the First National Bank of Belleville on June 14, 1921. In 1950 the bank officers removed a projecting corner bay with a distinctive domed roof from the building "in keeping with the rest of the town's modernization" . The Odd Fellows Lodge was located on the second floor. The Belleville Post Office was housed in the rear ca. 1906. J. C. Dawson's Book Store opened at 1718 M about 1901.

In March of 2017 the block was razed.
