If you approached this cache via the B3380 you will have come past Dartmoor's newest tea plantation. Beyond the cache is the tiny hamlet of Pridhamsleigh. Leigh (first recorded in 1219) means wood. The name Proudhomme was first recorded in 1281. In 1343 John de Prodhome was granted the right to celebrate mass in his manor, probably at a portable altar. The current manor (just down the road) dates from the 17th century, with a 15th century cider barn. The hamlet of Pridhamsleigh is also home to an cavern complex, 1.1km long. 'The Lake' is 30m deep, with emerald-green water, & Gerry's Chamber, at 25m, is the biggest in Devon. The caves are home to the 3mm-long blind white cave shrimp, endemic to this area. The caves can ONLY be entered with a guide & appropriate equipment NO PUBLIC ACCESS. The log is carefully secured inside 2 containers, hopefully to stay dry. You may need tweezers to retrieve the log. Please replace carefully so that it is secure. Thank you.
