OFF TO KIRRIN ISLAND

It’s the little room at the top that is important. It has got some extraordinary wiring there, essential to your uncle’s experiments. I don’t think he does anything with the tower – it just has to be there, doing something on its own, which has a certain effect on the experiments he is making.’”

This cache is placed while COVID-19 is still a very real threat. If you are caching, please take care – bring hand sanitiser and respect others’ space.

This is the sixth in the series (placed after number seven), and the series may take until I retire (estimate: 2040!) Eldest Daughter absolutely loved the Famous Five series (as well as Secret Seven, Faraway Tree and The Wishing Chair…) Her younger Sister has just finished the series! I am definitely not keeping up… We made this series to celebrate these books.

The cache includes the locations of two towers in Whitchurch, one a little larger than the other…..it's a simple offset multi, with the two points less than 1km apart.

The clue to find the cache relates to a tower. Navigate to the first location, find the West side of the tower (with the extraordinary wiring…) and count the number of rows of tiles on this side of the spire. Let this number be ABC.

Once you have the number of rows, you can solve the co-ordinates as follows:

You can park very near the first stage. For the final, you can just walk into town, or perhaps using one of the local car parks (Bell Street, Church Street, etc.)

You will need to be quite stealthy at the Final – it’s a very public area!
