O peixe escalar, também conhecido como Acará-Bandeira, é um peixe tropical originário da Amazónia e pertence à família dos Ciclídeos. Com as suas barbatanas em forma de seta e as suas escamas brilhantes, o peixe escalar é uma estrela absoluta dentro dos aquários. Quem tiver um aquário de água quente tem as condições necessárias para ter um peixe deste tipo.
Aspeto dos Escalares
Escalar é um conceito originário da matemática e da física que significa uma determinada direção de um vetor. Assim, o nome deste peixe ornamental refere-se ao seu aspeto. As suas longas barbatanas vão-se afastando do corpo e juntamente com a boca pontiaguda assemelham-se a uma seta ou triângulo. Na zona posterior, este peixe tem uma barbatana mais curta que lhe permite mover-se na horizontal. As escamas dos Escalares apresentam diversas cores, no entanto, as quatro listas verticais que os caracterizam são geralmente pretas. Uma delas circunda o corpo, passando pelos olhos e outra passa ao nível da barbatana caudal. Contudo, é de assinalar que existem peixes escalares sem estas listas. Estes peixes têm, regra geral, 15 cm de comprimento e podem alcançar 25 cm de altura.
