I love to geocache. My mother, most always with me on my caching adventures, loves reading historical markers. The two were just made to go hand in hand. So when we were arriving in the area where she grew up, and I saw this marker without a nearby cache, well, that just needed to be rectified. Especially so since this area is a little deprived of nice P&Gs that allow one to get out and stretch the legs. 

 What is particularly special about this cache and its placement here is that Mom's daddy and granddaddy were cattlemen and were part of the range wars in this area, so this is part of her heritage.The man who now lives in the house she lived in has cattle in the field where her daddy and granddaddy had cattle. The cattle shed and fencing her daddy built in the early 1900's still stands. With the exception of a few newer houses and fancier machinery and equipment, the area hasn't changed a whole lot in the past 100 years, according to Mom.  As you drive through this region, it's interesting to note the range land compared to farm land. What changes will the next 100 years bring to the area?

This micro cache has actually made it through a winter in it's location before being published. I wanted to make sure it would withstand the elements and it seems to have done just that. It's not a fancy container, not a clever hide, but it has withstood 5 months of rain, snow, and fire without damage. Please replace as found so it can continue to survive. It is only big enough for a log so be sure to have your own writing instrument handy..
