As you walk the north end trail system you will find several informative signs explaining the flora, fuana, and management practices of MSSP. Controlled burns have been demonstrated to work in a number of beneficial ways....but then you can just check out the sign yourself; I don't need to tell you what it says. Besides, you need to see it for yourself!
It was more graphic today since the area was just burned about 2 weeks ago. It will be another 3 years or so before it's burned again.
Having been forewarned by the Park management that they do these CBs on a regular and aggressive schedule, and that they WOULD not be responsible for "protecting" or "picking up" any geocaches in burn areas, I've made it a point to place them where they are least likely to be damaged. Usually it works, sometimes it doesn't. Either way, my contract with the Park is that I'll make sure they stay in place by regular and aggressive maintenance as needed. So far they've been very impressed. This is a great park, so please enjoy it and please respect it.
Hours:
The park is open from 8:00 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year.
Admission Fees:
$6.00 per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle.
$4.00 Single Occupant Vehicle.
$2.00 Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass.
Good hiking boots, a sturdy walking stick, effective bug spray, and plenty of water are recommended even for a short hike. Please do NOT drive through any gates if they are open, stay on all marked trails, and keep your eyes open for wildlife. All new geocaches in the park meet park guidelines for avoiding damage to the enviornment.
